Review: Aegean Airlines A321neo business class from Dublin to Athens

Some people think that Aegean Airlines has the best business class in Europe. High praise indeed, particularly as I personally think it would be difficult to knock SWISS off that perch. Still, each to their own, and so I decided to give it a try myself.

This flight was my first time trying the Greek flag carrier. When flying Ethiopian Airlines earlier in the year, I had credited to Aegean’s Miles+Bonus frequent flyer programme. All I needed were six sectors and I would go Gold, so I decided to do that.

Boarding

Dublin Airport’s main lounge in Terminal 1 is closed for expansion and refurbishment. Therefore, I timed it so I would arrive very close to flight time. After breezing through security, it was almost time to go. Boarding Groups are on the boarding passes and I waited for the call.

A3631 – Dublin to Athens (DUB-ATH)
14 November 2025
Airbus A321neo – SX-NES
Seat: Business Class 3A
Departure: 12:10 Arrival: 18:10

Turns out nobody cares about the groups, and everyone just boards as they like. My phone was scanned, I showed my Passport and headed on down to the aircraft.

Aegean Business Class

Like many other European airlines, Aegean business class is the same as economy with the middle seat kept free. In this instance there is also a tray table between the seats, so it feels a little more luxe, a la British Airways.

Happily there is USB chargers in the back of each seat, something that is basically a requirement today. Aegean offers Wi-Fi streaming for free for business class passengers, which worked quite well, so you need to have a place to plug in.

A welcome drink?!

Unusually for European carriers, Aegean offers a welcome drink. This is sparkling wine, water or juice. Unfortunately there were no bubbles in mine, so I asked for a new one, which was duly delivered. One thing to note is that the glass is poured with a feeble inch of the drink, while water and juice get full glasses. Looks very stingy indeed!

A full size menu was given out before take-off as well. Both the Cypriot Chicken Meat Balls and the Beef Fillet sounded great, so I was going to have a hard time choosing. Once everyone was on board, the glasses were collected and the safety demonstration given in Greek and English. From there, it was to the sky!

Lunch Service

Once flying, the Aegean business class lunch began. First up was a hot towel, and this was followed by the trays being laid. Next, the crew asked what you wanted. I was in row three, and by the time they got to me, the beef had run out. No problem, that made the decision easy for me, Cypriot Chicken Meat Balls for the win!

Yummo! I was pretty happy with both the amount of food and the quality. Everything was excellent and I ate it all with relish. Since the Greek sparkling wine wasn’t great, I tried the Greek wines instead, which were far nicer. Throughout the flight the crew were happy to provide top ups when you asked for them. At one point one of the crew said she, “really liked my vibe!” which was nice of her.

Overall Thoughts

As a full package, Aegean business class ticks all the boxes. It exceeds in some areas, such as the welcome drink on the ground, which you just don’t see on other airlines on European flights. The food was tasty and reflected the local cuisine and who doesn’t like a Mediterranean diet? The salad was particularly great, which I mention as at other airlines it usually comprises of what seems to have fallen on the kitchen floor.

My only quibble is the lack of Champagne. The Greek sparkling doesn’t cut it, and while I get showcasing the local product, perhaps it should exist in addition to some real bubbles. It was also great to have Wi-Fi and when it worked for about half the flight, it was excellent. The Greek airline will need to invest in StarLink and soon, otherwise it will be leapfrogged by everyone else over the next 24 months.

What do you think of Aegean business class? Have you flown with them before? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
