American Airlines announced today that it has reached an agreement with Korean Air to begin codesharing on AA flights between DFW and Seoul. If approved, the two carriers plan to begin codesharing in April 2015. According to American, they plan to operate the route between DFW and Seoul with a Boeing 777-200 aircraft.
American is refitting all 47 of its 777-200s to refresh the cabins and enhance the premium experience on international flights. The retrofitted 777-200 features a Business Class product designed especially for American’s customers, with a fully lie-flat seat, direct aisle access and a private flying experience. The plane has a modern interior – including a walk-up bar – with unique lighting, a dramatic archway and a spacious look, according to American’s press release announcing the new codeshare with Korean.
MJ’s Take and a Little Rampant Speculation
If you’ve been pondering how things were going with the Delta and Korean Air relationship, wonder no more. Does this foretell a pending exit from SkyTeam by Korean? I wouldn’t bet on it happening immediately based on one deal, but it’s worth thinking about given the apparently icy relationship between Delta and Korean. One codesharing agreement for one flight is not the biggest deal in the world, but one could be forgiven for wondering if this eventually leads to more? Again, it’s kind of fun to watch AA do things a little differently.
