A Word on Sky Club Crowding In a Post May 1 World

I’m finishing up my first trip of May, so this is the first time I’ve had an opportunity to sample the Sky Club crowding situation since the May 1 access changes. In summary, with one exception, things feel less chaotic. Here’s the situation by club:

Atlanta B-26, Monday AM – Crowded but there were seats to be found. The club was undergoing renovations and the downstairs seating area was not available. Verdict – overall, less crowded.

Atlanta B-10, Monday AM – Against my better judgement I decided to walk a few steps past my departure gate and check out the B-10 club. Anyone that flies Delta and visits the Sky Club knows this one. While Delta did an amazing job with the space they had, it still sucks. Verdict – the B10 Sky Club will always suck unless Delta is able to expand it. It was just as crowded as ever, but at least the bathrooms were clean.

Orlando, Thursday PM – Admittedly, I don’t think I’ve ever been to this Sky Club when I wasn’t returning from a cruise so I have always been here on Friday, Saturday, or Monday. It’s never been crazy, but has always been busy. Today, it is bordering on delightful. I’m certainly not here alone, but was able to find a seat with a power outlet nearby, and there are no kids running around. (Disclosure: I don’t have anything against kids joining their parents in clubs)

Based on a sample size of three, I’d say Delta’s changes are having the intended effect. The big question is will they lose paid members in the long run? I don’t know, but I bet Delta is watching the numbers carefully.

  1. I didn’t think B10 was all that super-small…until I realized I was looking into the mirror at the end by the bathrooms. Jeez…

  2. I was at the club in BOS this morning around 7:30 and it was empty. I don’t frequent the club in the mornings so I’m not sure if the timing was the cause.

  3. Did you see any tigers or bears in the clubs? If not, it would appear that the recent changes are doing a good job of keeping them away as well 🙂
