This seems like the week for news about premium credit cards. Just yesterday, we saw the news about the refreshed Chase Sapphire Reserve. Now, it seems like there may be another premium Amex credit card on the horizon. So what’s going on? Let’s have a look.

New premium Amex credit card

As per View from the Wing, an insider tip confirms that Amex and Delta are working on a brand new premium luxury credit card.

Now the tipster who leaked Delta’s planned elite and Sky Club access changes back in September 2023 – leading to such a backlash that the airline was forced to backpedal says that indeed this project is underway.

No Additional Details Yet

Beyond the insider tip, we don’t know any additional details yet. However, we do know that the card will be one level above the Delta SkyMiles Reserve cards. At the moment American Express is running limited time welcome bonus offers on their co-branded Delta SkyMiles credit cards. You can earn up to 110,000 bonus miles from a single welcome bonus. You can read all the details about the welcome bonus offers here.

Making a Prediction

Based on the existing co-branded credit card lineup, one can probably guess that the new card could have an annual fee of $795 or even $995 (if Amex chooses to go that high!) with the following benefits. Again, these are just my guesses based on Amex’s existing co-branded lineup with Delta.

  • 5x on Delta purchases
  • A welcome bonus of 150,000 miles after spending $10,000 in 6 months
  • Complimentary mid tier elite status with the ability to go higher with more spend
  • Full complimentary Delta lounge access instead of just lounge passes
  • More Resy, Delta Stays and Rideshare credits

The Pundit’s Mantra

I currently do not hold any co-branded Delta credit card. I have the Amex Platinum Card (Charles Schwab version) and I can transfer miles to Delta when needed. Also, given how much Amex has been hiking annual fees off late, I won’t be surprised if this ultra premium Amex credit card comes with an annual fee of almost four digits.
