American Express recently refreshed both consumer and business versions of their Platinum card. American Express added the hotel credit as a brand new benefit to the Business Platinum Card. On the Amex Platinum Card, which is a consumer card, Amex enhanced the credit by increasing it to $600 annually. This credit is split bi-annually as you earn $300 between January and June each year. Then again between July and December, you earn another $300.

Basic Card Members on U.S. Consumer Platinum Card Account are eligible to receive up to $300 in statement credits semi-annually (January to June, and July to December) for up to a total of $600 per calendar year, when they or Additional Platinum Card Members use their Cards to pay for eligible prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection bookings made through American Express Travel (meaning through amextravel.com, the Amex Travel App™, the Amex® App, or by calling the phone number on the back of your eligible Card) or when Companion Platinum Card Members on such Platinum Card Accounts pay for eligible prepaid bookings for The Hotel Collection made through American Express Travel (meaning through amextravel.com, the Amex Travel App™, the Amex® App, or by calling the phone number on the back of your eligible Card). Purchases by both the Basic Card Member and any Additional Card Members on the Card Account are eligible for statement credits.

You can read this post for a complete guide about this benefit. I’ve written a detailed blog post about how the credit works and how you can maximize the credit each year. However, how soon does the credit post? I wanted to use the FHR criedt for an upcoming reservation and decided to make the booking Amex Travel’s website.

I made the purchase on Nov 9, 2025. On Nov 10th, I saw the status bar move as my benefits section showed that my credit had been used for the second half of the year. On Nov 12th, the actual credit posted, even though it shows a date of Nov 9th over here. The credit usually posts in two to three days, even though the actual terms and conditions say that it can take up to 90 days.

Statement credits are typically received within a few days, however it may take 90 days after an eligible prepaid hotel booking is charged to the Card Account.

The Pundit’s Mantra

Even after American Express enhanced the Hotel credit, the benefit continues to work seamlessly. As someone who has carried the Amex Platinum Card in his wallet for many years, I’ve found this benefit very easy to use. Firstly, it suits very well with my style of travel which is primarily international in nature. Secondly, the benefit is pretty easy to use and the credit posts quickly.
