Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen a slew of news stories about aviation related accidents and incidents. Unfortunately, most of them have been pretty grim stories to read. In this case though, the good news is that the passengers on board escaped unscathed, in spire of having to encounter a few nervy moments as their flight hit significant turbulence after takeoff. Delta flight DL56 encountered turbulence as it headed from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam. The turbulence was so significant and severe that it had to make an emergency landing at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport.
Delta Flight Encounters Turbulence
NBC News reports that as per authorities at Minneapolis airport, the flight landed at around 7.45 PM local time on Wednesday, Jul 30. Immediately, emergency assistance vehicles swooped in with a rapid response from the airport’s fire department and EMS. The Delta flight was an Airbus A330-900 with a maximum seating capacity of 465.
“Medical personnel met the flight upon arrival to evaluate customers and crew. Twenty-five of those on board were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and care,” the airline said. “We are grateful for the support of all emergency responders involved.”
The Pundit’s Mantra
25 people were taken to the hospital for additional screening and care. On one hand, it musta’ve quite a harrowing experience for the passengers on board to experience turbulence and having to land at a different airport. However, the great news is that there were no casualties and the aircraft and all the passengers on board were able to make if safely back on ground.
