Just last week, I wrote about how I got a stunning 4 cents per mile in value from my latest redemption of Singapore Airlines Krisflyer miles. Each month, Singapore Airlines launched a sale called the Krisflyer Spontaneous Escapes, offering members a flat 30% off on qualifying award tickets. However, this sale is different from Spontaneous escapes and is for certain routes on qualifying dates.

Singapore Airlines: 20% off on Award Tickets

In order to enjoy 20% off on award tickets, here’s what you need to do:

  • Book a ticket in Economy or Premium Economy between Singapore and the US before September 21
  • You may travel between November 1 and May 31, 2026
  • The blackout period is pretty darn long: from November 20, 2025 to 11 January 11, 2026, which pretty much shuts out most folks who are looking to travel between the Thanksgiving – Christmas – New Year Eve period

The November 1 date is interesting because it’s also the date when Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer’s devaluation goes into effect, with several premium cabin award tickets going up in price. You can read about all the qualifying routes and the pricing for the promotion here.

The following routes do not qualify for the promotional pricing:

  • Cape Town to Singapore
  • Cebu to Singapore
  • Chong Qing to Singapore
  • Danang to Singapore
  • Melbourne to Singapore
  • New Zealand to Singapore
  • Penang to Singapore
  • Sapporo to Singapore
  • Singapore to Cape Town
  • Singapore to Chong Qing
  • Singapore to Melbourne
  • Singapore to New Zealand
  • Singapore to Penang

My Assessment

In this case, I find that each route has a lot of exclusions and blackout periods, which are pretty long. You really have to thread a needle and be really nimble and flexible to make good use of this promotion. However, there are a few useful options here, especially if you’re looking to fly long haul in Premium Economy between the US and Singapore.

The Pundit’s Mantra

Overall, I find this sale a bit disappointing. When you look at the details, you’ll see that the blackout periods are pretty long. Secondly, for certain routes, only certain flight number qualify.

However, this sale can work well if you’re traveling during the promotional period anyway or for people looking to fly in Premium Economy between the US and Sinagpore.
