In a recent post, I expressed my dismay about how Amex has kept increasing annual fees across the board, while adding benefits that are rather cumbersome to use. However, Amex still keeps on offering some of the best welcome bonuses compared to its peers. Currently, you can earn 100,000 Membership Rewards points with the Business Gold Card! Let’s have a detailed look at this card, it’s benefits, the welcome bonus and how you can earn credits to offset the annual fee.

BUSINESS GOLD CARD

With this limited time offer on the Business Gold card, you can earn a welcome bonus of 100,000 Membership Rewards points. You’ll earn the bonus once you spend $15,000 in the first 3 months. The annual fee of $375 is not waived. You can also opt for a new ‘White Gold’ card with a new design now. Moreover, you’ll also enjoy an intro APR of 0% for the first 6 months of card membership.

Business Gold Card: EARNING POINTS

You can earn extra points on select business purchases.  You’ll earn 4x points on each dollar you spend on the top 2 categories during each billing cycle. Following are the categories:

  • Advertising with select media providers in the US (online, TV, radio)
  • Electronic goods retailers, software and cloud system providers (US only)
  • Restaurants, including delivery and takeout (US only)
  • Monthly wireless phone service charges (US only)
  • Gas Stations (US Only)
  • Transit purchases (including trains, taxicabs, rideshare services, ferries, tolls, parking, buses and subways)

You bonus points are capped at a maximum of 600,000 Membership Rewards points per calendar year. So, while you can change the categories in which you spend the most, you can only earn the 4x bonus points up to a combined spend of $150,000 per calendar year.

In addition, you’ll earn 3x Membership Rewards points for travel you book via AmexTravel.com (includes flights and prepaid hotels only). On all other purchases, you will earn 1 point for each dollar spent.

Business Gold Card: Statement CREDITS

Each month, you can earn up to $20 per month in total when you spend in the following categories:

  • Fedex
  • Grubhub
  • Office Supply Stores

If you’re able to max these out each month, you can earn $240 each year in credits.

In addition, you will also get a statement credit on your Walmart+ Membership when you pay each month with your Business Gold Card. You can earn a maximum of $12,95 per month in Walmart+ credits when you set your membership on auto renew each month.

THE PUNDIT’S MANTRA

While the annual fee is rather steep, this card may be useful if you’re able to max out the monthly credits on the card. For many, it could be simply by using it for Grubhub or an office supply store purchase. Also, this card is extremely lucrative to rack up a ton of points if your business spends quite heavily on two of the six categories that help you earn up to 600,000 Membership Rewards points each year. Also, every now and then, Amex targets new and current cardmembers with offers even higher than these publicly advertised offers. You’ll need to check your email or your Amex account to check if you’ve been targeted for a higher offer.
