There’s been quite a lot going on over the last week. In case you missed it, both Hilton and Emirates have made cuts to their offerings, while a glitch on the Amex Platinum card caught some of us by surprise. That and more as we cover some of the stories from the last week…

$0 annual fee Amex Platinum Card glitch, what’s really going on?

While this may have been fixed, but for many members, the annual fee was showing up as $0 on their cards. Not just the Amex Platinum card, but also on other Amex cards that usually charge an annual fee.

Emirates devalues in a unique way, will other airlines follow suit?

Emirates has made a move that may miff a few. In short, you can only get access to Emirates First Class using your Skywards Classic award miles if you’re an elite above the basic Blue level. In short, if you don’t fly Emirates and are simply looking to transfer miles and book First Class, then you’re out of luck.

Is Amex setting a trap with these bonuses?

Amex is offering customers bonus points to downgrade their products. We’ve seen Amex offer retention bonuses and points while upgrading cards, but this is new. However, in my opinion, this could  be a trap to lock you out of welcome bonus offers in the near future.

Miles to Memories: American Express to End Hawaiian Transfers on June 30

Alaska’s acquisition of Hawaiian has opened up some nice points transfer opportunities. However, if you’re looking to transfer points to Hawaiian, you’ll no longer be able to do so after June 30, 2025.

Frequent Miler: Another overnight Hilton price hike…all the way to 200K points per night

Well, this hurts. Hilton has suddenly increased the prices of many of their aspirational properties without notice. In this case, you’ll see that the redemption levels for Hilton Honors points have just jumped to astronomical levels. 200,000 Hilton Honors points per night! That’s way too much for a single night. However, it puts the spotlight on Hilton’s free night certificates. Suddenly, they become as valuable or more valuable than points, especially when you’re looking to book some aspirational properties in the Hilton property.

PointsMath: KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes Current Promo Rewards

In my opinion, these are amazing niche rewards that can provide a ton of value if you time them well. In the past, I’ve used these monthly promos to frequently book travel between Mumbai and Singapore. for just 30,000 Krisflyer miles in Business Class. The latest promo is good, but you need to first check qualifying dates and routes before you look to transfer over some miles.

One Mile at a Time: Redeem Emirates Skywards Miles On FlyDubai At A Good Rate

This is an interesting development. I’ve never flown FlyDubai but now you can use your Skywards Miles to fly on FlyDubai metal as well. However, the process is not as straight forward as with some other airlines.
