NEW YORK – A few years back when we attended the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Homewood Suites-sponsored float went past us, I remember thinking: Is there even a Homewood location in New York? The answer then was no, but today, that’s changed.
Earlier this summer in June, Hilton Worldwide opened its first Homewood Suites by Hilton location in New York City (312 West 37th Street, between 8th and 9th avenues), and Travel Update’s here with a photo tour for you. A quick check on the brand website shows rates for tonight starting at $239.
Manhattan, by the way, is the market that every hotel chain wants to be in because it has the highest rates in the USA and it has the most visibility from both national and international travelers. Having a hotel here is akin to having a global billboard.

This Homewood Suites hotel’s located close to 9th Avenue, which is filled with decent but not fancy restaurants, including quite a few Thai places. If you get tired of eating out, you can cook your own meal in the fully stocked kitchen with a two-burner cook top and dishwasher; Homewood Suites hotels are designed for longer-term stays. The guest rooms, with faux wood floors and a welcome full-length mirror with a faux daisy in a vase, are on the large side for Manhattan.
Hilton HHonors member Angela Kearney recently stayed there. She picked it for the location “and wanted to try the new place in town.” Her reaction:
“I decided to experience myself for the night. Wow. Spacious, quiet tithe point you would never know I was out on a crowded street minutes before. My room was perfect and clean. Awesome!”
When you enter, expect a contemporary look with plenty of chocolate wood. The lobby area has a gas-fire pit, with semi-circular seating on one side that’s inviting at night. The lobby also has ample seating, including an expansive communal table, where you can work besides easy-to-reach power outlets. The room where the complimentary breakfast buffet is served gets crowded during peak time, but if you can’t find a table, head to the communal table in the main lobby. The hotel’s gym’s large – 1,505 square feet – and has an unusual “open” feel with natural light despite its basement location due to a clever design.
