Review: Modern Luxury at the Four Seasons One Dalton Street, Boston

Background:

I saw that the Four Seasons One Dalton Street Boston opened back in 2019 and it looked nice and modern. I had a stay booked last summer, but plans fell through. An opportunity arose again for a trip with family to New York and Boston this summer, so I decided to book the Four Seasons again to try it out.

The Four Seasons One Dalton Street Boston is a 61-story glass skyscraper, making it Boston’s third-tallest building, and Boston’s and New England’s tallest residential building. The hotel houses two restaurants, seven meeting spaces, a wellness floor, 215 hotel rooms on floors 8-21 and 160 Four Seasons Private Residences on floors 24-65. My last Four Seasons visit was back in May at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, and I enjoyed that stay very much, so I was excited to try another Four Seasons property.

Arrival:

I arrived at the hotel at about 5pm and was quickly checked-in. We were walked to the elevators and given a brief overview of the hotel offerings. The associate who helped check me in stated they would also have the rollaway bed delivered shortly. By the time I arrived at the room, the rollaway showed up in less than 5 minutes. Solid service!

The Room:

Our Deluxe Room was located on the 15th floor. My first impression of the room was that it was sleek and modern.

There was plenty of space, and the room featured a king-sized bed as well as a nice chaise located beside the window. The beds were very comfortable, as expected with Four Seasons properties. I think the Four Seasons bed and bedding is the best across the luxury chains I’ve tried. The rollaway bed was very good as well (probably one of the best rollaways I’ve had).

There was a table with a chair, plus a desk under the large 65 inch television. If you are working, there was a list of office supplies and extra furniture that you could order to make your “work from hotel” more comfortable.

A Nespresso Machine and hot water maker was provided. There was a minibar filled with drinks, and snacks as well.

The front of the room also featured a lot of large closets that made it easy to store your luggage and hang your clothes. I especially love Four Seasons hangers as they are made of a nice wood.

As with newer luxury hotels, there was plenty of technology in the room. There’s a tablet next to the nightstand that serves as the information guide with restaurant menus, ordering room service, requesting items, etc. There was also plenty of charging ports and USB outlets throughout the room.

We visited Boston during 90 degree heat, and the AC in the room perfectly handled the situation. The view overlooking the city was nice.

The Bathroom:

I really liked the bathroom, and enjoyed the interesting design of having two entrances that can be closed off with a sliding door from two different sections. When you are getting ready and want to see the sunlight and cityscape you can leave the bedroom side open, but if you are trying to allow someone to sleep while you get ready you can enter from the hallway side.

There’s a single sink with ample counter space, a separate W/C and large stand-up shower. Underneath the sink, you’ll find a digital scale, and essentials like ear swabs, cotton pads, packets of makeup remover and a shower cap are provided. The bathroom mirror also features a television.

I found it interesting that the W/C had a privacy sign button. I’ve never actually seen that before, but now that I think of it, it’s quite practical actually. I think it’s more useful than those hotels that have a phone with the W/C.

The stand-up shower was great and featured both a wand and showerhead. The water pressure was great, and toiletries provided by Roja Parfums were nice.

Service:

The service was excellent. Housekeeping always managed to come even though our schedule was quite sporadic, and the turndown service was always nice and tidied up the room. Turndown also provides ice and leaves little Evian glass water bottles which are a nice touch.

All the associates in the lobby were very friendly, and the hotel responded to chats on the Four Seasons App very quickly. I also inquired about late checkout as I had an evening flight out of Logan Airport, and they granted me 4pm checkout which was much appreciated.

I also want to point out that throughout my stay, it never felt crowded in the public areas, and was a peaceful oasis in the heart of a city.

Amenities:

The Four Seasons One Dalton Street Boston has a wellness floor on the 7th floor. Here is where the spa is located, as well as a good sized fitness center and indoor lap swimming pool. Residents also can use these facilities.

Also, if you feel like biking around the city, you can borrow one of the One Dalton Biria Bikes during your stay.

Zuma:

On our last night we decided to try Zuma on the 2nd floor which is the internationally-acclaimed Japanese izakaya-inspired restaurant and bar. Boston is the 12th Zuma worldwide. I made a reservation a day in advance and plenty of time slots were available, so I was surprised when I arrived that the restaurant was full! This is the only time during my stay where I experienced crowds. It seemed that a lot of locals and business people visited the restaurant. After my meal, it totally made sense as the food at Zuma was delightful!

Zuma has 3 open kitchens- the main kitchen, the sushi counter and the robata grill.

Every dish we had was amazing. My absolute favorites were the watercress salad with wasabi dressing, the black cod marinated in saikyo miso, 12 oz rib eye with chili ponzu, spicy tuna cut roll and the chicken skewers. While I enjoyed the shishito peppers, it was on par with many other places, so it wasn’t as special.

I would say that the drinks could be improved upon, the Lychee Martini was too sweet and the Zuma Iced Tea had frankly too much ice and didn’t taste great. Desserts were decent, the Yuzu Cheesecake was nice, and the Banana Cake with Matcha was not bad.

Definitely the highlights of the meal were the cooked food. I highly recommend dining at Zuma!

One + One Restaurant:

It is located on the 2nd floor and serves breakfast and brunch from 6:30am to 11am Monday through Fridays, and 6:30am to 2pm for brunch on Saturday and Sunday.

There is a breakfast buffet option ($44) but we decided to go à la carte.

I ordered the Maine Lobster Omelet, and my parents had a Make Your Own Omelet and a Two Eggs Any Style. We also got a Seasonal Fruit Plate to share.

The Maine Lobster Omelet had a lot of lobster, but it was a bit unbalanced, and my parents said their dishes were sufficient and nothing special. We liked the presentation of the Seasonal Fruit Plate and all of the fruits were sweet. Overall, I expected a bit more, so if I return I would probably try room service instead.

Other Dining Options:

Trifecta is the cocktail lounge located on the lobby level, is open from 4-11pm daily. They serve drinks and small appetizers. They also have afternoon tea Saturday and Sunday’s from 11am-2:30pm. I didn’t get to try Trifecta on this visit, but next time I would like to!

In room dining is also an option- and it is available 24 hours which is nice.

Location:

The Four Seasons One Dalton Street Boston is in Boston’s Back Bay and just a few steps away from the Prudential Center Mall + Copley Place Mall (which are both connected to each other). It was very easy to get Uber’s around the city, but you can also easily access the Prudential station on the subway system. Fenway Park is a little less than a mile away, and the North End is a little over 3 miles away. Additionally, Boston is nice as the major airport is very close to the city, and Logan Airport is only 6.5 miles from the hotel.

The Verdict:

Overall, I had a fantastic stay at the Four Seasons One Dalton Street Boston. The luxurious modern rooms, and solid service made for a peaceful and pleasant city stay. If my travels bring me back to the city of Boston, I will definitely try to stay at the property again.
