Another week has gone by and it is time for me to summarize this week’s posts for those who have missed out. Links are provided to each one for curiosity.
The last week of January 2020 was a busy one for PYCR. I published five posts. Four of them were news posts and the fifth one was a “perspectives” post, which presented my opinion about a points and miles related topic. Most of the posts published were about promotional offers on certain credit cards, which are usually common around this time of year.
Without further ado, here’s the weekly review:
Citi Premier Has an Increased Sign-Up Bonus
Last Sunday’s big news came from Citibank, whose mid-tier Premier card is offering an increased sign-up bonus. The catch is that you must apply for the card in-branch instead of online. The increased bonus is worth 5,000 extra points, so getting approved in branch could be nice for international travel.
Citi is trying to increase traffic into their branches. They want people to apply for the Premier Card so they can also apply for other credit and banking products. This is a smart move by Citibank.
Use a Chase Credit Card Three Times and Earn 500 Bonus Points
Chase is also offering extra points. However, their bonus is for those with contactless cards. I was targeted for 500 bonus points on Tuesday if I simply used my Sapphire Reserve for three contactless purchases throughout February 2020.
But the great news about this offer is that all Chase cards are eligible to earn the bonus points. This includes both core and co-branded cards. It’s not just limited to the Sapphire Reserve.
Chase Offering Targeted “Just For You” Offers That Bypass 5/24
Back in November 2019, Chase began targeting certain cardholders with special offers that bypass the infamous 5/24 Rule. Chase began targeting more people with such offers this week. And this post explains how to check for these offers and what they are all about.
Five Reasons Why You Should Not Get the American Express Gold Card
Friday’s post discussed five reasons why you should not get the American Express Gold Card. The Gold Card is one of the most popular cards that earns transferrable points. But it’s by no means perfect and it’s not for everyone. This post explains why that is.
Moreover, contrarian posts like this one often spark a debate in the comments. Several readers often disagree with the posts presented in the post. But that’s the point of a contrarian post. Readers might have their own points of view on the issue at hand. Or they might agree with the contrarian point of view, but for different reasons altogether.
Reminder: Register for Discover It 2nd Quarter 2020 Categories
Yesterday was the first day to register for next quarter’s 5% categories if you are a Discover It cardholder. The second quarter’s categories are Gas Stations as well as Uber, Lyft, and Wholesale Club purchases. This is a wide array of categories that can be beneficial for plenty of travelers.
Furthermore, those who took advantage of Discover’s “up to 3% extra cash back promotion” in December 2019 will receive up to 8% cash back within the categories. This beats most cards that earn points and miles.
I hope that everyone has a great Sunday! Stay posted for more content next week!
