Expect aircraft changes soon at the small airport in Peoria, Ill., that might make business travelers happier, a Central Illinois TV news outlet reports. While no changes have yet been announced, Peoria’s airport director Gene Olson told the TV reporter that he expects they will eventually come in light of the national trend to move away from 50-seat regional jets (RJs).

The Peoria International Airport is now served primarily by 50-seat RJs, but rising fuel prices are prompting airlines to replace them with larger aircraft that are more economic to fly. When the changes do come, Olson expects airlines will continue service from 6 a.m. until about 11 p.m. with roughly the same number of seats, but – get ready for the downside – frequency would be reduced.
That means business travelers would have a more comfortable ride, but fewer flight times to choose from.
Many airlines have already replaced the 50-seat planes with 70- to 90-seat jets.
