Heads up, the 30% discount on points purchase from Hyatt ends on May 30, 2022. Through this promotion, members can buy Hyatt points for as low as 1.68 cents per point. This is a good price point to purchase outright for a high value redemption. As a resident of Canada, my options to earn Hyatt points are restrictive, so I value these discount promotions a lot more, especially for higher tier redemptions, and also mattress runs to keep my Globalist status going.

The current promotion allows members to buy as little as 5000 points with 30% discount, or as much as 55,000 points which would cost $924 USD. The transaction is processed by Points.com and not by Hyatt directly, so its best to use a card that provides value (or earn rate) on ‘everyday purchases’. Note that the yearly limit on purchased points per account is 55,000. However, World of Hyatt (WOH) does allow members to share points between accounts for the shortfall when redeeming.

Hyatt 30% discount is the best value we have seen from Hyatt, and I am certainly purchasing at this price point. Especially, if you want to redeem at highest category  properties in the WOH portfolio. In fact there are some hidden gems, even at the lowest tiers of the program – a couple of resources to help unearth the sweet spots;

At the end of each year, I usually have to mattress-run few nights to unlock Globalist perks, including threshold awards. For that, I am usually eyeing Cat-1 properties which can be redeemed for as low as 3,500 points per night. At 1.68 CPP, that’s ~$59 USD (~$75 CAD), a great price point and use of my bought Hyatt points. For that reason alone, I am buying, have bought the full 55k – will you?
