The American Express Aeroplan Cards were easily the winner amongst recently announced enhanced suites of Aeroplan Cards. Not only for the highest welcome bonus offer (Up to 75,000 Aeroplan Points), but also the options it offers to those that may have not signed up for the waitlist offers, or perhaps for those that prefer a Buddy Pass over few extra Aeroplan points. Lets take a closer look and analyze what these benefits are worth;

American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card – Personal valuation of benefits

I value Aeroplan points at 2.0 CAD cents a point. This valuation is based on the average value I derive out of my usage of Aeroplan Points. And based on this valuation, the breakdown of key benefits on the Card is as follows;

Mass Welcome Bonus: 65,000 points is worth $1300 + $100 Statement Credit = $1400
Lounge Access$495 CAD (estimate based on individual membership price for Maple Leaf Club)
Annual Worldwide Companion Pass$300 (minimum value of this benefit). In practice, this benefit alone can bring savings upwards of $1000, but I have taken a conservative valuation to highlight its worth.

Total Minimum Value$2195 or more

With an annual fee of $599, it’s easy to see how the exclusive benefits on the Card far outweigh the annual fee and make it worth keeping, for all frequent travellers. The Card offers outsized value and will peak the interest of those seeking a premium Aeroplan card in their wallets.
