As part of my ‘yearly pilgrimage’ to see humpback Whales in migration, I spent a August week in St. John’s, Newfoundland. I have stayed at the Sheraton or AirBnB properties in town on previous trips, and this year I decided to stay and review Delta St.John’s – a Marriott property.
Delta Hotels St.John’s Conference Centre is a Category 5 property, perfect for using Marriott certificates. During peak season, (June – September) the cash rate for the hotel can range between $220 – $300 per night.
Delta St. John’s Review – Hotel and Lobby
The hotel is located on Gower street and is a convenient walk to all things touristy. Truth be told, the hotel is a bit of a throwback with its peculiar design and interior setup.
The check-in process was smooth, Marriott app came handy. I was upgraded to the Leisure suite for the stay – Leisure Suite with a view of the harbour, features a large bathroom along with a kitchenette. As a Gold member, I had access to the lounge and was also offered a breakfast voucher as an option.
Delta St. John’s Review – Leisure Suite
I was assigned room 334 with a view of the harbour.
Unfortunately, the harbour view from the view was slightly disappointing. Having stayed at the Sheraton, my expectations of harbour view in St.John’s has been distorted. Having said that, the view of the mountain and the water is never bad, I suppose 🙂
Delta St. John’s Review – Signature Club Lounge
The Signature club lounge served breakfast in the morning, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages in the evening. The breakfast options in the lounge were less than average. The views promised to be great but the fog played spoilt sport on both days.
We skipped the lounge breakfast and used our breakfast voucher at the lobby restaurant Mickey Quinn’s.
Delta St. John’s Review – Other Hotel Amenities
Delta St. John’s as a Category 5 property is a great use of Marriott certs, especially during peak season when hotel pricing in the city can be $250+. St. John’s is one of my favourite cities in the world and I was happy to experience a new hotel in town. Cannot wait to be back.
