Following recent announcement of a strategic codeshare partnership between Air Canada and Emirates, starting today, December 7th, Air Canada is introducing an expanded partnership that includes reciprocal earning, redemption, and reciprocal lounge access in Dubai and Toronto. Aeroplan members will now have the ability to redeem points on Emirates flights, across all cabins including First Class (coming in early 2023). In addition, Air Canada will introduce Emirates Business Class Lounge access in Dubai for Aeroplan 50K, 75K, and Super Elite members.

Wowza! Good Morning, and a happy Dec 7th to you all πŸ™‚

Expanded Emirates partnership

  • Reciprocal Earning Worldwide: Aeroplan members will be able to earn Aeroplan points on Emirates flights worldwide, and similarly, Emirates Skywards members will be able to earn Skywards Miles on Air Canada flights worldwide.

  • Reciprocal Redemption Worldwide: As of December 7th (at approx. 7am ET) Aeroplan members will be able to redeem Aeroplan points for Emirates flights, and similarly, Emirates Skywards members will be able to redeem Skywards Miles for Air Canada flights. Emirates redemptions will have their own dedicated dynamic chart, based on distance bands;

Direct flight from YYZ – DXB (6899 miles), or YYZ-DXB-BOM (8097 miles) would price between 80,000 – 185,000

    • The new dedicated chart takes effect in early 2023. Until then redemption pricing for Emirates Business and Economy Class may be similar to other partner redemption amounts.
    • Emirates First Class redemptions are coming soon. They will become available for redemption once the new Emirates chart takes effect in early 2023.
    • Emirates redemptions can be combined with Air Canada, and 45+ airline partners.
    • Like all other Aeroplan partner redemptions – no carrier surcharges (YQ), $39CAD partner booking fee applies.
  • Reciprocal Lounge Access in Toronto and Dubai:
    • In Dubai, Aeroplan Elite 50K, 75K and Super Elite members travelling in Economy Class with Emirates will enjoy complimentary access to the Emirates Business Class lounge along with one guest.
    • In Toronto, Emirates Skywards Gold and Platinum members travelling in Economy Class with Air Canada or Emirates will enjoy complimentary access to Air Canada’s Maple Leaf Lounges and Air Canada Café along with one guest.
      • For Emirates flights departing Toronto, Emirates Business Class will have access to Maple Leaf Lounges and the Air Canada Café, and Emirates First Class customers (and up to one guest on the same flight) will have access to the Air Canada Signature Suite.

Take Away

The ability to redeem Aeroplan points towards Emirates flights is awesome – more options for members, albeit pricey once the distance based dynamic chart comes into effect. The real sweet spot would be to book business class rewards in the next few weeks, at standard partner redemption rates. The partnership also opens another avenue to access Air Canada Signature Suite, for those flying on Emirates First Class from Toronto when it becomes available in early 2023.
