This post is a reminder of important update on extension of Free Weekend Night Rewards, by Hilton Honors, and also a heads up the current points promotion which offers members a 50% discount when purchasing 7000 points or more.

Extension of Free Weekend Night Rewards

Hilton Honors in partnership with American Express, has announced the extension of Free Weekend Night Rewards, as per below;

    • Rewards issued through June 30, 2020 have been extended and will now expire July 1, 2022.
    • Rewards issued between July 1 – December 31, 2020 expire 24 months from date of issuance.
    • Rewards issued between January 1 – December 31, 2021 will expire December 31, 2022.
    • Rewards issued between January 1 – December 31, 2022 will expire 12 months from the date of issuance.

All Hilton Honors American Express Card Members can view their Free Weekend Night Rewards, including total number of rewards, expiration dates and usage activity, online, but need to call customer care to redeem the same.

Furthermore, Free Weekend Night Rewards, including those issued in 2022, can continue to be used any night of the week (not just on weekends), and Hilton Honors Bonus Points earned from eligible purchases on any Hilton Honors American Express Card will continue to count as Base Points toward Elite tier qualification and Lifetime Diamond status through December 31, 2022.

Free Weekend Night Rewards

The deadline to this Q4 promotion, Hilton 50% discount on purchase of 7,000 points or more, is December 7, 2021, at 11:59pm ET. A good opportunity to top up accounts towards a redemption or buy points outright for a planned stay. Purchasing Hilton points at 0.5 cents a piece offer great value when redeeming at the highest tier properties – think over water bungalows!

With this promotion 7,000 points cost $35, or 80,000 points for $400! Note that you can purchase up to 80,000 Hilton Honors Points in a calendar year, not including the bonus. Since you can combine points across household accounts, you can choose to purchase 80K on each account.

Free Weekend Night Rewards

Even though Hilton does not publish a chart anymore, the highest category Hilton redemptions range between 80K-95K per night, during low season. Very handy for anyone dreaming up a Maldives vacation – Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, which books directly into the Water Villa on points – 95,000/nt, can be had for $475 with a rate of 0.5 cpp through regular promotions. Compare that to the cash price of ~$1240/nt (May 2022 rates), and that’s a solid ~60% discount.

There is also incredible value to be had when redeeming low-mid tier category hotels in the Hilton portfolio. Remember, the ‘5th night free’ benefit which can add another layer of savings.

Last but not least, no matter how good the savings, I would not advise purchasing points speculatively. Hilton often sells points at 0.5 cpp and I would rather have a set use in mind beforehand.
